HA9 Task 3 - Primary Research

After finding and reviewing secondary research for GTA 5's audience, I decided to gather my own primary research. To collect my research, I created a 10 question survey on SurveyMonkey. Since I was finding out which people DO play GTA 5, I made sure that each person that answered had played the game before.

At the time of writing, 6 people completed my survey. 100% of the participants were male, and the majority were under the age of 18. This shows that young people still play the game, despite the PEGI rating of 18.
For this question, I received a diverse range of answers. Of course, there are more than 6 responses for this question, which means that some people played GTA 5 on multiple platforms, but at least half of the participants had played the game on PC. Twice as many people played on the XBOX consoles than Playstation, and overall more people played on console than PC, showing that the audience is mainly console players.

When asked how many hours they had played GTA 5, 50% of people said they had over 60 hours of playtime, and two people had played up to 40 hours, including all platforms they have played on. This shows that many players are quite dedicated to the game, and play it very often. They were then asked what they would rate the game out of 5, and the results were interesting.
2 people had rated the game 3/5, which is an average score, and the rest had rated it 4 or more. Since no one rated GTA 5 lower than a 3/5, it means that everyone who played had some enjoyment out of it.

A big part of GTA 5 is the online mode, so I asked the participants whether they played it with their friends, or by themselves. The response was overwhelmingly in favour of playing with friends, with only one person saying they played without.

For this question, I asked which of the 3 main characters was their favourite, and the reason why. 3/6 responses said Trevor, with similar reasoning, that he is a crazy character.

The follow-up question asked which secondary character was their favourite. Two responses named minor characters within the game, who occasionally have contact with the main characters. The other responses named main characters, and I assume they believed the question asked for their 2nd favourite character.

I also asked what they liked most about GTA 5, and how they would improve the game. The most popular response for liking the game was the wide open city, in which you can "do almost whatever you want".
2 of the responses for improvements was to find a way to stop hackers and cheaters in the game, which could mean there is a big problem with them. According to other responses, they felt like there weren't enough side activities to take part in, but overall, the complaints seemed to be rather minor.
